5 LAKE HIKE AT PIZOL

At the cashpoint, they warned us that it was snowing the night before and they also asked us if we have proper hiking shoes, but I really didn't expect that!
This story goes back to 2020. This hiking trail was on my list for a while before I decided to plan it. It was 5.8.2020, the day before I spend in Canton Neuchatel and it was cloudy and rainy. Zürich was even worse, probably the coldest day that summer.
Pizol is a mountain in eastern Switzerland, really close to Lichtenstein, where you can also find a Heidi hiking trail for the kids. But be careful while planning, because you have to take a cable car in Wangs and not Bad Ragaz.
I took public transport all the way to Wangs, Pizolbahn, about 1h away from Zürich. The days what totally different. Sunny, without any clouds and really warm. At the cashpoint - cable car, I couldn't see the peak of the Pizol, but they warn us all that it was snowing the day before so we need proper hiking shoes...
So I hoped in the cablecar, changed the chairlift twice, and finally ended by Pizolhütte (2227m.a.s.l.), where the hike starts. It's a one-way hike that ends up in Gaffia (1861m.a.s.l.).
Warning if you don't want to be like me! The first lake is by the Pizolhütte on the left. It is in the opposite direction from the hiking trail so you are not going to be able to see it unless you make a turn. That's why I have a reason to go back!
Below you can what kind of view I had at the beginning.

Once we started a hike, the snowy path took us all the way up to the Wildsee (2493m.a.s.l.). It was a bit difficult to hike but the view was just amazing.

The next destination was Schottensee.
Now, when I*m looking back at these pictures it shocked me, how steep the path actually was. The only safe way was to stay at paved paths without thinking to go a bit left or right. I had snow until my knees. Can you see the people on the back coming down the mountain on the next picutre?

In Switzerland every hiking path you take, there is a big chance to see cows or goats on the way. This time were sheep. On the way to Schwarzsee...

At this point, the path got really muddy and at some point also foggy. There was one last lake to see (besides the one that I forgot) and it was Baschalvasee.

It took me a bit more than 5h to complete the hike. I must say it was probably the most dangerous I've done. At some point I said I'm going also on Triglav (the highest mountain in Slovenia) if I complete it.
But I'm glad I decided to go to Pizol that day. Now I have some amazing pictures with snow and this year I plan to do it again to see what it looks like without.
