I'm not really that kind of ''planning'' person but I have my days as well and one of them was Easter Monday. This week I'm on holiday and MetoSwiss said the weather, other then Monday, will not be that shinny so we had to take the opportunity and ''just go somewhere''. And that somewhere was the area of Interlaken.
The St. Beatus Caves are a popular tourist attraction in Switzerland, located in the Beatenberg municipality, just a short drive from Interlaken (north part of Thunsee). The caves were formed over millions of years by the action of water eroding the limestone rock. Totally worth visiting (if you're not an NBA player)
According to legend, the caves were once home to a dragon who terrorized the local population until a local monk named St. Beatus defeated the dragon and banished it to the depths of the cave. Today, visitors can explore the winding passages and admire the stunning stalactites and stalagmites that have formed over time.
One of the most impressive parts of the caves is the underground waterfall, which cascades down a 30-meter drop and creates a misty atmosphere. The caves are open to visitors from March to November, and guided tours are available in several languages. It's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area and looking for a unique and fascinating experience!

The cave system is quite extensive, with a total length of around 14 kilometers, although only a small portion is open to visitors. The guided tour takes about an hour and covers approximately 1 kilometer of the cave system, taking visitors on a winding path through narrow tunnels, over underground waterfalls, and past glittering crystal formations.
Overall, the St. Beatus caves are a fascinating and unique destination for anyone interested in natural history and geological wonders. Waterproof shoes are a must!
Enjoy ;)
