Let's say it's Sunday afternoon, the weather got cleared and you just got this instict wish to go somewhere. Have you tought of Rheinfalls? Let's take you there

Rheinfalls is just on the borther with canton Zürich and Schaffhausen. It is approximately 150 meters (492 feet) wide and 23 meters (75 feet) high, making it one of the largest and most powerful waterfalls in Europe by volume. The waterfall was formed during the last Ice Age, about 14,000 to 17,000 years ago, as glaciers retreated and the riverbed was shaped by the flowing water. It is situated on a rocky outcrop of the Rhine River. The river flows over a ledge of hard, erosion-resistant limestone, creating a dramatic cascade.

You will find 2 parkings nearby, one of them is just by the castle, where you can also enter for 5chf and see the Rheinfalls really close. For the train use this link:

By good weather I recomend you to take the boat trips that are available for visitors who want to experience the waterfall up close. One of them, that I took, is taking you all the way to the Middle rock, where you can climb up and see the waterfalls really close. https://rhyfall-maendli.ch/en/tickets/

Neuhausen Castle/Schloss Laufen

The history of Neuhausen Castle dates back to the 10th century when it was originally built as a fortress to guard the river crossing. Over the centuries, the castle underwent several renovations and expansions, eventually transforming into a picturesque Renaissance-style castle. It has served various purposes throughout its history, including as a residence for noble families and later as a restaurant and tourist attraction.

Today, Neuhausen Castle is a popular tourist destination, offering guided tours of the castle interior, exhibitions on the history of the region, and access to observation platforms where visitors can admire the breathtaking views of the Rhine Falls. The castle also houses a restaurant where visitors can dine while enjoying the scenic surroundings.

Trip is also family friendly, if you're planning to walk all the way around there is a part with stairs, otherwise you have 2 big play grounds and planty of space and park for the kids to jump around. Also good as a last minute trip on a beatiful sunny Sunday.

Enjoy your trip <3
